Not too long ago someone asked Jamie Lewis a question that thousands of other people are constantly wondering about and asking.

The question asked was: I would love to hear some people’s tips on article marketing and how to get highly ranked. Is it as straight forward as picking a well searched for but not too competitive keyword phrase and then using it repeatedly in your article?

I saw an article in GoArticles and I was intrigued as to how it was getting so many hits. On the front page of Go Articles under the “Most Requested Section”, it was promoting a Forex trading product with over 60,000 hits and it didn’t look like it was jammed with too many keyword phrases.

Interesting enough this sort of question pops up constantly and people are always wondering how to properly write an article to promote a product or service out there. Since Jamie Lewis has had some amazing successes online he followed up on the question and responded by saying:
Yep, use a keyword that gets some good traffic and is lacking in competition.

Then use the keyword first in your headline, like this:

(If your keyword was “nose job alternative”)

A good headline would be:

Nose job alternatives for idiots: Forget a plastic surgeon!

A bad headline:

Forget a plastic surgeon: Try these Nose job alternatives!

See? The headline should have the keyword first since the search engines scan left to right.

Next, don’t overdo your keyword, you don’t want to make your article look like your trying to please the search engines, rather have it in there a maximum of 5 or 6 times.

An article should follow the first 2 steps of the basic copywriting method, A.I.D.A:

1. Attention
2. Interest
3. Desire
4. Action

BUT only follow the first two steps. Why? Because once they click at the bottom, then you want to create the desire. Remember, they are reading an article, you want to give them something, but not all of it, so that they do click at the bottom. Saving the “desire” part for later.

Now you go to the resource box:

Start it off with incredible information as if it’s NOT the ending. Don’t start your resource box off like “Ok, so that’s what I found out. Its great to get into it, etc.” Dont start it like “So,” or “Ok,” like its ending. The reader will then identify the resource box as the ending, when in reality, ITS JUST THE BEGINNING!

A better way is:

“Studies have found that… ”

And the reader says to themselves “Wow, there is more & more.”

And then use ANCHOR TEXT for your link: A great Nose Job Alternative that will restore your confidence and…”

So, these are the basic guidelines when writing your ad.

Next, EzineArticles’ very strict editorial and landing page requirement does work in your favor with the search engines, because the search engines is what Article marketing is all about (In my opinion, sorry for the generalization).

Remember, you can do direct linking (without a landing page) with many article directories, but not Ezine.

With Ezine, you’ll need to have a landing page that mentions your keyword. Now this landing page will help you, since the search engines look for good “relationships.”

You can even have your landing page link to 5 other relevant articles within your site. Watch your article skyrocket to the front. I know this sounds complex, but I figured I would share this with you anyhow, don’t let it intimidate you. This is what I do with my articles and I’ve seen them get to the front page with very competitive terms.

You can however for the meantime, use GoArticles, then promote the heck out of your article & post backlinks to your article as well. You want to ride the search engines to the top. The search engines love EzineArticles and GoArticles A LOT.

A great way to DOMINATE article marketing is to MASTER http://www.ezinearticles.com first. EzineArticles is the most complex article directories and has VERY tough guidelines. They make GoArticles seem like a toy.

Both are great, but Ezinearticles has some serious educational resources and an incredible user control panel. They can make you an incredible article marketer.
